History
Built in the 12th century on the site of an earlier Saxon church which was founded by St Aldhelm, St Mary’s was one of the first stone buildings in the country. During the last eight hundred years it has seen many changes but has always remained a constant within the community.
Friends of St. Mary’s is a registered charity founded in 2001. It was originally established for the refurbishment and re-hanging of the church bells. Today its role is to continue to support the maintenance and enhancement of the building and thereby safeguarding St. Mary’s for future generations.
